If you want to lose love handles, then the first step that you need to take is to start looking at your diet. It all starts with your eating program. Any type of physique transformation you want to make begins in the kitchen and what you put into your body. You know I have a funny saying to relate this to clients and others when I talk about this.
I always say if you had a big sports car such as a Ferrari or Porsche, would you go and fill up your gas tank with 87 octane fuel? No, not at all. When you head to the pump you would fill it up with 92 or 93 octane to make sure the engine and all of its parts are working optimally. Eight seven octane wouldn’t just be right…And that’s how you have to approach your diet when it comes to how to lose love handles.
For example, the first thing that I would tell someone to do is to go through their cabinets and such and make a list of all their foods items. From there open up your refrigerator and start doing the same thing, make a checklist of what you find inside.
After that, go through the check list and mark off everything that is unhealthy that you can find inside. And what I want you to look for is anything that is processed, comes in a box, or just pure junk food. Example are any types of breads, whole grains, anything made with wheat or flour, cookies, cakes, candy, granola bars, pretzels, crackers, etc…
Anything of that nature you need to get rid of and throw out in the garbage. The reason for this is because carbohydrates, specifically those found from grains are one of the biggest contributors to adding inches to your waist line and love handles. They induce a huge insulin response when you consume these types of foods.
The only ideal time would be right before or after you workout. But still, there are a ton of better options out there to refuel yourself with some type of carbohydrates that there is no reason to even eat these grains.
Plus a lot of this stuff is very inflammatory to your insides and organs. The reason is because of gluten. Our diets, when we were evolving never evolved on a wheat based diet. We only started eating this stuff when we settled down and domesticated around 10,000 years ago. Only then was wheat and gluten rich diets introduced into our worlds.
I also would advise you to bump up your protein intake if you want to know how to lose love handles. The reason for this is because protein is very hard for your body to break down and digest, a lot more so then carbohydrates or fats.
Therefore, it has a higher thermic effect on your body. This means that you body has to break down and utilize more calories just to digest protein. It’s also the hardest macronutrient to be stored as body fat. And another great thing is if you eat enough of it, it helps to keep you full and satiated…This doesn’t’ happen with carbs or fats.
Of course I would also tell you to increase your vegetable intake as well. The best way to prepare your veggies is not in stir fry, since a lot of people use crappy canola oil or peanut oil to do this, but just steamed.
Studies have shown this is the best way to cook vegetables and preserve all of the good anti cancer fighting nutrients and phytonutrients. Plus vegetables contain a ton of fiber, which again helps to keep you full and hold your night time cravings at bay. They have barely any carbohydrate content except fiber and barely raise your blood sugar levels. Feel free to eat as much of them as you can stomach.
And the last part of the dietary puzzle to losing love handles is the types of healthy fats you’re consuming on a daily basis. A lot of people think fat is bad for them, but they are sadly mistaken. There is a reason “FAT” exists in nature and in the foods we eat. It’s healthy for us, we need it for the synthesization of many key things in the body, especially hormones.
But you want to make sure that you get in a certain types of fats, since some are better than others. I can tell you right off the bat that trans fat is the absolute worst type of fat to consume. It’s not needed in the body at all and completely man made. It wreaks havoc on your arteries and brain tissue. Anything on the back of a label that says hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated is trans fat so stay away from it.
All in all if you want to lose love handles, it really all begins with your diet. Without that, you’ll just be spinning your wheels in the sand.
